Carpenter Ants

The body colour is typically black although they can also be reddish-black. They are large, with their length measuring from 1/4″ to 3/4″. They prefer nesting in dead trees, rotting logs and stumps. Most indoor nests are started in moisture-damaged wood. Carpenter ants are also known to tunnel in sound wood that has no moisture damage. They can cause thousands of dollars damage to homes and businesses.

House (or Pavement) Ants

Pavement ants, or house ants, are found all over Canda and the United States. They can attack your property which is where their names came from…they nest in lawns, under rocks, pavement, sidewalks, and building foundations. They are not destructive. They feed on sweets including sugar, fruit, syrups, grease, dead insects, and seeds.
